Brian McGonagle of Everett died on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. He was 69.

He was born in Everett on April 13, 1957 to Lawrence W. and Eileen (Parker) McGonagle and never left the city. He studied electricity at Everett Vocational High School, graduating in 1975, then earned an associate degree in electrical design at Northeastern Technical. His first working years were spent as a Teamster at Mystic Motors, the family business, delivering oil and paving roads beside his father, brothers, uncles and cousins in whatever weather the day brought.

The bulk of his career, 30 years, was at Bunker Hill Community College, where he was the carpenter and locksmith. He was the one on the Bobcat or with a shovel when it snowed, the one who drove the soccer team’s bus when a driver was needed, and the one faculty and students called when something had to be fixed now.

He was, as his family put it, a friend of Bill W., and a longtime member of the Everett Pathfinders, where for 30 years he made the coffee every Saturday morning and looked after newcomers. It was through that community that he met Sandra (Badeau), his partner of 34 years, whom he married on June 19, 2014. The two traveled whenever they could, to Deer Island, Stage Fort Park, the Kancamagus Highway and the playgrounds of Winthrop with the grandchildren.

He leaves Sandra; his daughters Sara Soper-Stevens and her husband James of Winthrop, and Melissa Burchfield and her husband Stephen of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; his grandchildren Scarlett and Sylvie Soper-Stevens; his brothers Lawrence N. Sr. and his wife Anmarie of Nashua, Kevin and his wife Colette of Melrose, Joseph of Palm Bay, Florida, whose wife Genita has died, James and his wife Bonnie of Nashua, and Daniel of Everett; his sisters Ann and Eileen McGonagle, both of Everett; and many nieces and nephews in the McGonagle and Badeau families.

Visitation is Wednesday, November 4 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Cafasso and Sons Funeral Home, 65 Clark Street, Everett. A Mass of Christian burial is Thursday, November 5 at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 487 Broadway, Everett, with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. The family suggests gifts in his memory to MOAR, the Massachusetts Organization for Addiction Recovery, in Boston.
