Corrections
We correct errors of fact promptly and visibly. A corrected article carries a note at the bottom saying what was wrong and when it was fixed. We do not quietly rewrite. To request a correction, email editor@everettmanews.com with the article link and the error.
Police and court records
We publish arrest logs and court information from official public records. An arrest or a charge is an accusation, not a conviction. If a case against you was dismissed, you were found not guilty, or a record was sealed or expunged, send us the documentation and we will update the article to say so.
Meetings
Our coverage of city meetings is based on the official video and transcript, the agenda packet and the posted minutes. Automated transcripts can misspell names; we check names against the city’s official rosters and documents before publishing. If we have your name or title wrong, tell us.
Obituaries
Our obituary notices are our own summaries of information published by funeral homes and families. We link to the original. We do not reproduce a family’s obituary text, and we remove or amend a notice at the family’s request.
Opinion
Opinion pieces are labeled Opinion at the top. Everything else is news, held to the standard that every factual claim can be traced to a record or a named source.
Independence
Advertisers, public officials and sources have no influence on what we publish. We accept no payment for coverage.
