A car stolen in Lynn on Monday night, October 26 with a child still inside was found and stopped by Everett police on Revere Beach Parkway at Vale Street within about an hour of the alert, and the child was unhurt, the Everett Police Department said.
Lynn police broadcast the alert late Monday. Everett officers tracked the car to the parkway, watched it, and “were able to safely stop the vehicle and take the suspect into custody without incident,” Chief Paul Strong wrote in a notice posted at 11:44 p.m. The child was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital to be examined and the parents were sent there to meet the child. “Excellent teamwork by EPD,” Strong wrote.
The charges
In an update Tuesday, the department identified the driver as Marvin Kentrez Pryien of Malden. He was courtesy booked at the Everett station for Lynn police, who took him back to Lynn to be charged, including with kidnapping, the department said. Everett police said they will bring their own motor vehicle charges, including reckless endangerment of a child, and that he also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
The child “is fine and was reunited with the parents last night,” the update said.
Where it happened
Vale Street meets Revere Beach Parkway, Route 16, near the Chelsea line, a stretch that carries traffic between Lynn, Revere and the Tobin Bridge approaches. Residents nearby reported a heavy police presence and a helicopter overhead Monday night.
A charge is an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until convicted. The case will be heard in Lynn District Court; Everett’s charges would be heard in Malden District Court, which covers Everett. The department has not said when the arraignment is.
