Patrick F. “Rick” Petrone Jr. of Everett, a teacher and coach for more than four decades and a member of the Boston University Baseball Hall of Fame, died on October 28, 2026. He was 83.

He grew up in Medford and graduated from Medford High School in 1961. At Boston University he earned a bachelor’s and a master’s degree and played first base for the Terriers, the start of a loyalty that lasted the rest of his life: he held season tickets and belonged to the Friends of BU Hockey for more than 40 years, and in 2008 he was inducted into the inaugural class of the BU Baseball Hall of Fame. He served in the Massachusetts Army National Guard from 1965 to 1968.

For 43 years he taught physical education at Belmonte Junior High School in Saugus, where he also taught information technology and coached football and baseball. He was varsity coach for Saugus High School football, hockey and baseball, and for years worked the pro shop and drove the zamboni at Hockeytown USA in Saugus. Students knew him as “Mr. P.”

He shared a home in Everett with his parents, his sister Barbara and her family, and was “Uncle Ricky” to the nieces and nephews who grew up there. He liked boating, coin and stamp collecting, a good game on television, a new car and a good meal.

He leaves his longtime partner, Judy Masucci of Winthrop, and their dog, Teddy; two nieces and a nephew, Joanne Crafts (James) in Everett, Kim Dell Isola (Jay) in Lynnfield and Jay Darling (Kim) in Peabody; and seven great-nieces and great-nephews: Jake, Alex, Molly, Olivia, Emma, Jack and Joshua. His parents, Josephine and Patrick F. Petrone Sr., and his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Jack Darling, died before him.

Visiting hours are Tuesday, November 3 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Vertuccio Smith and Vazza Beechwood Home for Funerals, 262 Beach Street, Revere, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Revere Street, Revere. Burial is at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. The family suggests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
