Charles A. “Chicko” Alvino died on Friday, October 30, 2026 at Massachusetts General Hospital after a short illness, with his family with him. He was in his 100th year, a fact he liked to point out.
He spent his whole life on Broadway in Revere, where he was born on May 31, 1927 to Anthony and Carmella (Fiore) Alvino, one of ten children. He finished Revere High School in 1944 and enlisted in the Navy during World War II, earning the World War II, American Area and Asiatic-Pacific Theatre medals before his honorable discharge. Back home he earned an associate degree in business and accounting from Bryant and Stratton.
He married Claire Struthers on August 6, 1950, and they raised five children in Revere. He went to work as an oil broker at Catania Oils, then called Catania Spagna, buying cooking oils, and stayed 68 years. He was close to the Basile family that owns the company.
For more than 45 years the family gathered at his lake house on Webster Lake in New Hampshire, on the pontoon boat or around the table. He played cards at the Soccorso Club on Revere Street and at the Sons of Italy, took the family to Las Vegas, and stayed independent and productive to the end.
Claire died after 61 years of marriage. He leaves his children, Charles Alvino and his wife Judy of New Hampton, N.H.; Cindy Silvia of Revere, whose husband Manny has died; Nancy Boudreau and her husband Paul of West Peabody; retired State Trooper Stephen Alvino and his wife, retired State Trooper Kerry Alvino, of Plum Island; and Susan Gordon and her husband Michael of Danvers. He also leaves 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. His brothers Robert, Edward, Paul, Ernest and Frank and his sisters Rose “Tina” Giamattei, Sophie Giberti, Helen Mastrogiovanni and Louise Marino died before him.
Visiting hours are Thursday, November 5 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Vertuccio Smith and Vazza Beechwood Home for Funerals, 262 Beach Street, Revere, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Revere Street.
